we are actually playing on the floor and trying to play proper football for first time in years , it is only a matter of time before the results to start showing

Our biggest problem is transition speed. Going from defence to attack and attack to defence.

When an attack breaks down the other team suddenly have acres of space and all our players are out of position and take an age to get back.

When we get the ball we play a couple of passes and then through lack of options we slow down to get numbers and the opponent is suddenly set and in position to defend.

I like the look of Balbeuna and Diop together. And I thought Sanchez did a decent job of stopping Moutinho and Neves play through the middle. He's got legs and gets about. I liked him and Obiang together. Sanchez obviously unlucky for the goal and he was devastated. But really at home to Wolves we should be allowing one single mistake effect the score-line so dramatically.

MP needs to get the balance right and get his best eleven shored quickly.

But as my mate said after the game yesterday. It will be the best West Ham team he has ever seen in a relegation battle so we should be ok.

In agree chelmsford, what we have seen is actually a swing from the midfield being too open and attacking and not doing a job to help the defense to a midfield that helps the defense and is too slow to attack. We need to get the balance. It will come... I hope

Rochester, I understand the system. The problem is we need the midfield and attack to work better, taking a player out of midfield / attack and having another CB will not help. What you suggest was even being done as the team played. Watch the game again, you will see at times we had a straight line back 5 with midfielders defending in front of the back 5 and then in attack we had the full backs pushing up to hope the forwards and midfield and the CBs + Sanchez pushing up. The problem is the slowness, not that we had a midfielder instead of a CB.

You can’t say try harder when the players do not have the physical attributes to achieve what you’re asking them to do, it’s judt never going to happen.

I think the main problem at the moment is pellegrini still doesn't know his best team. Every game we see people not only dropped to the bench but dropped totally. He needs to decide what his starting 11 is and their roles in that team and at least give it three or four games, thats half the reason we look like we've never met each other before match days.

Obviously you expect the odd change here and there but with 9 new players in the squad the only way they'll get to know how each other plays is by actually playing together for a few games.

Carroll offers an aerial threat and ability to go direct but Imho Reid and Noble are not improvements in terms of quality What they do offer is a better attitude when we are struggling.

We simply lack pace , mobility and strength across midfield. Bringing 2 players are of real quality to central midfield would totally transform us. Well that a couple of adjustments to player positions

We will need another survival specialist to keep us up I think. Our team resembles the managers demeanour. Half hearted, resignation and defeat.

Rochester, “taking a player out of midfield to play is a centre back” is what you are proposing. There are only 11 players on the pitch if you have 5-6-7 defensive players as you are suggesting that leaves very little to go forward. What happened yesterday if you watched was when Wolves were attacking we had a back 5 with 3 midfielders in front of the centre backs, when we went forward Sanchez also went forward as you say pressing higher up the pitch. Problem was we were slow. With one less attacking midfielder that is not going to help us get goals. Yesteday goals were the problem not defending. Sorry but it makes no sense to me to argue that putting another CB on and even two defensive midfielders (was that your suggetsion?) will help us attack faster. I do not see it. For me the problem was exactly what you are saying is not necesary. Our midfiled must work harder, they must close players down that have the ball, they must go forward fast, they all have been bought because they can and have done that, they need to do it. Plus they must track back and help cover the defense. Yesterday they did not do those things and that is what was wrong. Other teams are doing that. I just watched Cardiff doing exactly that. That is their job and why they were bought. Thye need to work harder and do their jobs.

Jesus Christ, you lot are fucking mental. The problem we have is we didn't get rid of enough dead wood from the last 3-4 years, esp in the middle of the park. The new players are performing reasonably, the long termers, those that have let us down over and over again, are the crap that's dragging us down. Fucking Reid, Carroll, Ogbonna, Obiang, Antonio, FFS. Mental.

Not sure if that’s tongue in cheek or not Brentford, but Reid is massively under rated and Carroll (when) fit is a handful for any defence that creates space for others even if he looks to be doing fuck all himself.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Wolves - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
Cos we now have 2 wing backs a beast of a centre half in Diop and Rice a year older to play the spare man.
Also potentially great attacking options further up the pitch that we didn’t have last year!
Fredericks and Arthur could cause mayhem either side with the freedom of 3 centre half’s covering them.

We took some absolute pastings playing 3 at the back last season.

What is it that makes you believe we’d do any better now?

I still think until he starts putting round pegs into round holes we’re always going to struggle! Try harder isn’t really the answer, players don’t deliberately not try, you have to get the best out of what you have system wise and we’re so far from doing that it’s a joke!

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Wolves - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
It didn’t matter who our wide players were they were all tucking in so our full backs were getting exposed time and time again. It didn’t help that Fredericks and Cresswell had shockers. Generally speaking all our players seemed half a yard off the pace. Tactically we are all over the place and the manager needs to be putting a rocket up the whole squad to get them working harder.

You work with what you have not what you don’t!
To say the midfield should work harder is nonsense, we have what we have and have to work with that not against it! If we had an athletic centre mid then maybe but we don’t and saying try harder isn’t going to make a lot of difference!
